Wednesday, March 10, 2010 RICHARDSON, TEXAS - Junior pitcher Anthony Smith (29 Palms, Calif./Cal State-Stanislaus) has been selected Lone Star Conference Diamond Co-Pitcher of the Week for the second time this season, based on his performance against 22nd-ranked New Mexico Highlands and Texas A&M-Kingsville last week. He shared the honor with Heath Wyatt from Southeastern Oklahoma State. With the selection, Smith is the first Greyhound to receive the honor multiple times in the same season since Trevor Davis was selected three times during the 2005 season. Smith turned in another strong week, recording saves in both of his appearances. His first save came against 22nd-ranked New Mexico Highlands, with him retiring three of the four batters he faced. The Javelinas loaded the bases in the sixth inning with one out, before he struck out the final two batters, including a 12-pitch battle for the final out of the inning. Smith faced five batters in the seventh, before recording his fifth save of the season. The Eastern New Mexico University baseball team will visit Angelo State this weekend for a four-game LSC series, before returning home against Texas-Permian Basin next week. |
