PORTALES, N.M. — Eastern New Mexico University head softball coach Amber Daniel has announced her resignation from the program, effective Sunday, May 31, 2009. In her final season, Eastern posted a 24-23 record including victories 10th ranked Dixie State, MSU-Billings and Texas A&M-Kingsville. Over two seasons, Daniel guided the Zias to 52 wins.

“Over the past five seasons, I feel I have learned a great deal about intercollegiate athletics, and most importantly, I have grown as a person,” said Daniel. “I am grateful for the opportunity that ENMU has given me and I will cherish the relationships I have gained since coming to Portales.”

She served the softball team as the interim coach for the second half of the 2007 season, leading the team to 16 victories in their final 27 contests after serving as the acting head coach in 2005 and a graduate assistant in 2006.

“I appreciated Amber’s contributions to the athletic department, particularly to the softball program,” said ENMU athletic director Mike Maguire. “She has filled every role asked of her since coming to the program in 2005.”

Maguire has announced that a national search will be conducted to fill the position.
