PORTALES, N.M. — Juniors Nathan Uland (LB, Denton, Texas/Ryan HS) and Karlton Graves (OT, Brownwood, Texas/ Brownwood HS) from the Eastern New Mexico University football team have been selected ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District 6 for the second straight year for their efforts on the field and in the classroom during the 2009 season.  The Greyhounds have had at least one player selected Academic All-District since the 2007 season.

To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.3 on a 4.0 scale, play in a minimum of half of the team’s contests and have been on the team at the institution for a minimum of a year.

Uland, a business major with a minor in finance, ranks sixth in the NCAA Division II, with 11.5 tackles per game. He registered a career-best 20-tackle performance against Angelo State and had 16 stops with a sack in a victory over Texas A&M-Commerce. For the season, he has recovered two fumbles and had 16.5 tackles for a loss of 50 yards.

Graves, a political science major with a minor in history, has played a major role in the success of the offense, as the Hounds have cut their sacks allowed total of 4.73 from last season down to 3.5 allowed per game this season. The results have been evident as ENMU has already tied their single-season scoring record with 339 points. Other offensive marks include featuring the top player in the NCAA Division II in total offense and setting numerous single-game records, including an incredible 47 first downs against Southeastern Oklahoma State.

The Eastern New Mexico University football team will conclude their 2009 season on Saturday evening against University of the Incarnate Word. Kick off is scheduled for 6 p.m. MST.
