ABILENE, TEXAS— Richard Kogo’s (Jr., Eldoret, Kenya/West Texas CC) 34th-place finish paced the Eastern New Mexico University men’s cross country team to a ninth-place finish at the NCAA Division II South Central Regional Championships, held on Saturday morning, in Abilene, Texas. Nicole Reid’s (So., Pueblo, Colo./East HS) led the Zias to an 18th place finish at the meet. With their performances, the Greyhounds and Zias have concluded their 2009 seasons. The Greyhounds entered the championships ranked seventh in the latest United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches of America regional poll, with five teams in that poll earning a spot on the national poll. The Hounds finished third among Lone Star Conference teams, behind Tarleton State and Cameron; and ahead of 15th-ranked Abilene Christian. Kogo placed 34th among the field of 127 competitors, completing the 10k run with a time of 32:54.01, while Jacob Lozano (Fr., Hobbs, N.M./Hobbs HS) was close behind, turning in a 37th place performance with a time of 33:03. The Greyhounds’ ninth place finish was eight slots higher than last season’s 17th place finish at the regional championships, which were held in San Antonio, Texas, on October 25, 2008. Nicole Reid’s (So., Pueblo, Colo./East HS) was the 36th runner to cross the finish line in the field of 143 runners, registering a season-best time of 23:16.68. Jerri Martin (Sr., Gallup, N.M./Gallup HS) also ran a season-best 24:43.46 to place 89th. In all, six of the Zias’ seven runners notched their top 6k time of the season. The ENMU women’s cross country team’s last appearance at the regional championships came after the 2006 season, on October 4, in Warrensburg, Mo. Greyhounds 9th place, 10k dash 34.
