ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.— The Eastern New Mexico University Zias dropped their exhibition opener on the road Monday night as they fell to the University of New Mexico Lobos in The Pit.  Despite a 23-point effort from the bench, the Zias failed to keep up with the tempestuous pace of the Lobos, who outscored the visitors 100-52.

The Zias managed to play almost point-for-point with the Lobos for the first seven minutes (15-11) before a flurry of field goals from the Lobos ignited a 29-14 run to end the half.  A 27-6 run in favor of the Lobos would put the game out of reach during the first ten minutes of the second half, with UNM outscoring the Zias 56-27 in the closing period.

The Zias were led by Cat Clay (F, JR, Deming, N.M./Deming High School), who scored in double digits, leading the team with 14 points, one assist, and three rebounds.  Lace Clark (G, SO, Keene, Texas/Keene High School) scored nine for the game with one assist and one rebound.

Lauren Taylor was the leading scorer for the Lobos, scoring 20 points while shooting an astounding 100 percent from the floor.  Taylor also recorded three rebounds and three assists.  Four other Lobos scored in double digits during the contest with Amanda Best registering a double-double, (12-12.)

The Zias will return to action Monday, November 16, when they host the Cowgirls of New Mexico Highlands in their home opener.  Tipoff is set for 6 p.m. MST.
