PORTALES, N.M. – Eastern New Mexico University Greyhound basketball coach Andrew Helton found himself in rare company Tuesday night, becoming only the second Greyhound coach to win his debut game since 1998, when former ENMU coach Terry Tyler defeated Southwest Assemblies of God, with a win over Western New Mexico, 83-68.
Outshooting their opponents at the line (24-32, 11-17,) the Hounds outpaced the throughout the contest. After taking a 10-2 run to begin the opening stanza, the Hounds would not look back, taking a 35-24 into the half and increasing the margin to as much as 21 during the second half. Leading the Hounds offensively was forward Victor Reid (G/F, JR, El Paso, Texas/Cochise Community College), who tallied 17 points during contests. The second leading scorer for the Hounds was Josh Megyeri (G, JR, Manitou Springs, Colo/Trinidad State), turning in 15 points during the game. Megyeri was 5-7 from the arc. Tyler Jefferson (F, JR, Fort Worth, Texas/Tyler Junior College), was also in double figures for the Hounds, recording ten points and eight rebounds. Equs Darby (F, SR, Lake City, S.C./Feather River CC) also had a good night for ENMU, recording six points and eight rebounds. The Hounds will return to home action on Saturday, November 28 when they face Western New Mexico. Tip off is set for 4:00 p.m. MST. |
