PORTALES, N.M. — The Eastern New Mexico University volleyball team dropped a 3-0 (25-27, 20-25, 23-25) decision to visiting University of Central Oklahoma (11-10; LSC 3-2), in Lone Star Conference action, Thursday evening at Greyhound Arena. Megan Carpenter (Fr., RS, Friendswood, Texas/Friendswood HS) paced the Zias (5-15; LSC 0-5) with 11 kills and a .333 attack percentage. The Bronchos won the first two sets and traded points with the Zias for much of the third set, with Eastern erasing a 14-13 deficit on two UCO errors followed by a Madison Rhoades (Fr., OH, Rio Rancho, N.M./Rio Rancho HS) service ace to take a 16-14 lead. Neither team could sustain momentum, but Central Oklahoma seized the lead for good, 19-18, on a kill from Zuela Adom and held off Eastern’s attempt at a rally. UCO held a .230-.131 edge in attack percentage and out blocked ENMU 7-3. Veronica Valdez-Kent (Jr., OH, Canyon, Texas/Canyon HS) finished with 10 kills and 13 digs, while Jessica King (So., MB, Las Cruces, N.M./Oñate HS) had nine kills and three blocks. Grace Brandt (Jr., L, Dumas, Texas/Dumas HS) dished out a season-high 32 assists, while Caitlin Murphy (Sr., L, Amarillo, Texas/Tascosa HS) had 17 digs. Kristen Wilson paced UCO with 11 kills and 14 digs. All statistics from the match are pending review, due to technical difficulties during the match. The Eastern New Mexico University volleyball team will return to action on Saturday afternoon, when they host Southwestern Oklahoma State in another Lone Star Conference match. The contest is scheduled to start at 2 p.m. MST. |
